The Galactic Halo from Microlensing

چکیده
The status of the microlensing search for galactic dark matter in the form of massive astronomical compact halo objects (machos) is reviewed. Unresolved issues are discussed, as well as possible ways to solve these.

The effect of variation of stellar dispersion velocities by the galactic latitude in interpreting gravitational microlensing observations
Our galaxy is a spiral galaxy and its stars are mostly in a thin disk and rotate around the galactic center. The vertical component of the dispersion velocity of stars is a function of the galactic latitude and decreases with increasing it. In the galactic Besancon model, this dependence is ignored and they just consider the dependence of dispersion velocity on the stellar age. Becanson model i...
متن کاملSpatially varying mass function of MACHOs in the galactic halo and interpretation of microlensing results
The gravitational microlensing experiments in the direction of Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) predict a large amount of white dwarfs (∼ 20%) filling the galactic halo. However, the predicted white dwarfs have not been observed at the galactic halo. To interpret the microlensing results and resolving the mentioned problems, we use the hypothesis of spatially varying mass function of MACHOs, propos...
متن کاملQuasar-microlensing versus star-microlensing evidence of small-planetary-mass objects as the dominant inner-halo galactic dark matter
We examine recent results of two kinds of microlensing experiments intended to detect galactic dark matter objects, and we suggest that the lack of short period star-microlensing events observed for stars near the Galaxy does not preclude either the “rogue planets” identified from quasar-microlensing by Schild 1996 as the missing-mass of a lens galaxy, or the “Primordial Fog Particles” (PFPs) i...
متن کاملReview of results from the EROS microlensing search for massive compact objects
We present the results of the EROS2 search for the hidden galactic matter of the halo through the gravitational microlensing of stars in the Magellanic clouds. Microlensing was also searched for and found in the Milky-Way plane, where foreground faint stars are expected to lens background stars. A total of 67 million of stars were monitored over a period of about 7 years. Hundreds of microlensi...
متن کاملMicrolensing signature of a white dwarf population in the galactic halo
Microlensing and pixel-lensing surveys play a fundamental role in the searches for galactic dark matter and in the study of the galactic structure. Recent observations suggest the presence of a population of old white dwarfs with high proper motion, probably in the galactic halo, with local mass density in the range 1.3×10−4−4.4×10−3 M pc−3, in addition to the standard galactic stellar disk and...
